Notes from a Labor and Delivery Class

Spent the better part of my day at an impressively overwhelming Labor and Delivery course offered at my clinic. Of course there were many .... memorable....bits of information shared, I think what I will likely hang onto to the most was when Matt got pulled out from the group to answer the question about 'how to support your partner during the labor process.' The nurse pointed directly at him and set up the scenario: "Picture your best friend running their first marathon. And you see them at mile 10 struggling and panting for breath. They are really hurting. What would you do for them?"
Matt paused for a good long while, as any sincere introvert would likely do. Long enough to give time for the class to shift a bit in their seats. I looked at him, wondering what he would do with that question. He finally responded asking for clarification "wait...so my friend is only on mile 10 of the marathon??"😂👏👌
Afterwards, he kept processing it with me "man! If my friend was struggling that much on mile 10 of a marathon, I'd definitely say 'you are wildly unprepared for this race. Just go for the half. You'd be lucky to finish the half at this point.'" Fair enough!🤣 Having run a few myself, I wouldn't argue with that assessment. And believe it or not, that comment and a handful of other ways he made me laugh during this mind bogglingly tiring class, assured me for the umpteenth time why this thing seems so doable with my Matt

at my side.
